Getting around Watamu

Tuk-tuks

The three-wheeled tuk-tuk is the everyday taxi of Watamu. Short hops within the village cost little; agree the fare before you set off and have small notes ready. They are ideal for getting between the beach, the village and restaurants.

Boda bodas (motorbike taxis)

Fast and cheap, but only ride with a helmet and with drivers you or your hotel know. For anything beyond a short hop, a tuk-tuk or taxi is a better choice.

Bicycles

Watamu is flat and compact, and many guesthouses lend or hire bicycles. Early morning and late afternoon rides along the beach road are lovely; avoid the midday heat.

Taxis and private transfers

For Malindi, Gede, Kilifi or the airport, a taxi or one of our private vehicles is the comfortable option. We can arrange trusted drivers with fixed prices, any time of day or night.
